Michael McCann has a gentle way with women, and Timona Calverson is no exception, despite her ragged clothes. Though Timona may be no more than a mysterious woman, Michael is determined to keep her from harm, if only for one night. Timona can't bring herself to tell him who she really is - or that her rich family will pay handsomely for her return. She knows very little about Michael McCann, except that he is good enough to give his last cup of tea to a stranger, and compassionate enough to own the ugliest dog on earth. But the rugged Irishman's unexpected kindness has won her wayward heart - now and forever.

Heroine’s line “Not again” sums up the plot. How many evil failed attempts to conquer can you have in one story? Why introduce characters and not develop them? Too many names to follow that add very little to the plot. Just gave up on this one and exchanged for another title.

it was refreshing to read this romance with two characters who like, help, and respect each other almost from beginning to end. The one time the hero tries to intimidate the heroine, they both burst out laughing. There's some interesting subversion in how the book treats masculinity. The hero in this book is a working class Irishman who is esteemed in his community for his exceptional kindness and helpfulness. He is gentle and a friend to children. This is contrasted with the heroine's protective brother, more of an "alpha" type and a cold man who will resort to violence to protect his sister--a fact that is treated as disturbing more than admirable.

The heroine is a very singular character who seems to be almost cognitively incapable of understanding the upper class mores she grew up with (though her manners are excellent). She treats no one as inferior. I liked her a lot. She is the victim of an attempted rape at the beginning of the book and seems to suffer no lasting trauma for it. That did feel unrealistic to me as did a few other events in the book (the characters often act quite modern) but ultimately I didn't mind.

The vocal performance was excellent and I enjoyed hearing all the different accents.

Overall this romance was refreshing, thoughtful, and sweet. Light on the smut although it is certainly there. Recommended.

Mutually respectful romance

I was engaged by the characters and the story. The hero was spinning by the heroine and she was very colorful.
The narrator did a wonderful job with the reading.

Interesting story

Laughed out loud a few times. Highly entertaining. I listened twice just to make sure I didn’t miss anything!
