Monck’s Corner, South Carolina, 1739. When Mae Briscoe learns that a small group of slaves plans to flee to Florida for freedom among the Spanish, she knows she must go with them. The master’s son has been far too friendly lately, and there’s no one to protect her. She knows the trek will be rough, and it will be hard adapting to a new culture, but given the circumstances, the call of freedom is too strong to resist. Thus, she begins an adventure of a lifetime, heading south to freedom.

This one is a good clean story. It told of some of the trials that black people had to endure. The narrator was great. I could tell which character was speaking.

Great!

Listening to the audiobook of South to Freedom was delightful. We are introduced to Mae, who as a slave has no rights. She is being pursued by her masters son. Her road to freedom is an opportunity to go south to Florida with a group of slaves. She is frightened, but freedom is at the end of the journey.
I was given a copy of the book by the author for an honest review.

What an interesting story! I've been to St. Augustine, but I had no idea of this history and the nearby runaway slave fort. I believe there's a lot more conflict between the two faiths than it appears in this story, but, if offered my freedom, I may have been willing to make the same choices they had, by keeping their true faith personal.
I enjoyed the narration. each character had a unique and distinctive voice and I appreciate that the most!! Coffee's character voice fit him perfectly!!

Janice Cole Hopkins pens a fantastic romance that features freedom and religion. Mae is a slave who has the opportunity to find her freedom. Fleeing with a group, they travel from South Carolina to Florida. Not an easy trek, and she finds herself at odds with a few. She and Josiah though have become friends and when the get to the area, the two become closer as they find their way to starting their new life. But will they find that they are more than just friends? Will the be able to settle into an area that is Spanish and a new religion? Hopkins gives a look into how difficult it was to find the freedom Mae and Josiah deserves. It's told with compassion and love, and I enjoyed it.

James Cheatham and Shamaan Casey give a fabulous performance. Cheatham tells the story with passion to reach the goal and Shamaan Casey gives voice to all the people seeking freedom. Distinct voices and high emotions, this is a fantastic listen.

Such a wonderful book! I enjoyed the narrators with different voices for the characters.
I loved the characters and getting to know them. It still amazes me to know that the slaves would give up everything they’ve ever known for their freedom, even if it cost them their lives if they got caught. Mae, Josiah and the others had to decide whether they were going to take that risk. I liked Mae learning new things that she had never done working as a lady’s maid and working in the big house.
Read this book! I really suggest the audiobook because it was so good. I recommend this book and author. As always this author writes clean and is always inspiring.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the author but was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Loved the Characters!
