Lightning should have killed Marcus Shaw.

Instead, it wakes something inside him. A hum in his chest. A power that amplifies every mage he touches, turning wards into weapons and sparks into infernos. Fenwick Academy calls him a Class-Five Amplifier — the first in sixty years. The Department of Magical Affairs calls him a threat.

Four strangers call him family.

Elena Blackthorne builds walls of ice and thinks three moves ahead. Sage Winters sees patterns in chaos and can't stop chasing them. Kira Nightshade moves through shadows like she was born there. Derek Rodriguez doesn't have magic at all — just a laptop, a dead man's switch, and the stubbornness to keep five gifted idiots alive.

Together, they form the Pack — a Collaborative Consciousness that shouldn't exist, five minds linked by choice rather than force. Every session pushes them closer. Every failure nearly tears them apart. And every breakthrough makes the people watching from Washington more afraid of what they're becoming.

Agent Daniel Ashford arrives on campus with gray eyes, a six-week timeline, and twenty-three years of making inconvenient things disappear on behalf of a system that's been running for six decades. The DMA has burned facilities, vanished researchers, and buried the truth about what really powers the Grid beneath Fenwick's stone walls: fifteen imprisoned amplifiers, their consciousness stolen, their minds fueling a machine that hunts the next generation.

When a dying man transfers the frequency that can collapse the Grid, and the woman who spent thirty years protecting bonded mages gives everything she has left to make it work, the Pack has one shot — expose a conspiracy that reaches from campus corridors to congressional chambers, free fifteen prisoners who've been powering a machine for sixty years, and survive the fallout. The price of failure is a federal containment cell. The price of success is two people who believed in them.

The story is interesting, the AI voice isn't too bad, the story is interesting, the problem is the editing. the story jumps around, repeats, jumps to different areas in the book. It needs to be cleaned up and out in order other wise it is hard to follow.

Out of order

This was a tough title to finish. The writing style mixed with the virtual narrator caused a significant portion of the story to be filled with many halting pauses mid-sentence. Every pause was jarring and broke the flow. Had the title not been offered for free with my membership I would likely have requested a refund.

Narration as smooth as a cat's tongue

you don't get from a criminal review to a academic review in 7 days, you don't go from one hearing for a suspect to a presentation for ability in 7days, teachers and students interrupt a demonstration but only the student is question as to why now. lack story, lack of cause to effect. forced story flow without cause. author needs a editor to identify these type of root story missing components.

too many forced changes no cause for effect.

Good luck keeping track of what’s going on in this book. If the book chose a storyline and kept with it I would give the story 4 stars, but whole sections of the book are repeated with storyline changes and this is not noted during narration.

Terrible narration with entire paragraphs repeated 2-3 times with different storyline changes each time
