Nell Ingram faces a dark magic with no known origin in the newest pulse-pounding paranormal procedural in the New York Times best-selling Soulwood series.

Nell is a rookie PsyLED agent, using the powers she can channel from deep within the earth to solve paranormal crimes. Together with her team, she's taken on the direst magic and the most twisted foes. But she'll need to tap into every ounce of power she has for her newest case.

Nell is called to the Tennessee mansion of a country music star and finds a disturbing scene - dead bodies rapidly decaying before everyone's eyes. The witch on her team, T. Laine, has never seen magic that can steal life forces like this. PsyLED needs to find this lethal killer fast. But when a paranormal-hating FBI agent tries to derail the investigation and the dark magics begin to spiral out of control, they find themselves under attack from all sides.

Nell continues to evolve as a force of nature and to define herself. Her family and work relationships add interest to the plot. I'm actually starting to like Ayatas Firewind, which is an excellent example of how well Faith Hunter controls her storytelling/plot renderings/character development! The evil in this one is complicated by the number of bodies and attacks on the land. Khristine Hvam gives another wonderful performance. The major defect to the book is that I finished it and want another!

I really enjoyed the Soulwood storyline when it first started and it just keeps getting better, stronger, and richer as each book progresses.

My only real complaint was the change in pronunciation for Ephraim.

Though given how this book ended; I must confess to serious trepidation about what horrors await the next installment of the series.

I'm pleased to read that Nell is coming into her own: getting more confident & less "churchy" while helping her sisters to do the same. The story is going along nicely & I look forward to the next in the series!

Awesome Narrator, Good character development!

The newest Soulwood book does not disappoint! While it is arguably one of the darker and more grotesque stories of the series, there is also lplenty of ove, happiness, and humor laced throughout. The investigation and mystery is full of intricate detail and as we watch our beloved PsyLED unit battle their latest foe we bear witness to rich character development. Nell continues to grow into her powers and out of the bondage pf her church woman life., carrying her sisters with her for the ride.
As always Khristine Hvam' s superlative performance raises this already exemplary series to new heights! Bravo!

Another stellar installment by Faith Hunter!
