Detective Rebecca Watson is tracking a vicious serial killer in Eugene Falls, Florida. As a distraction, she's dragged back into court for the retrial of a man convicted of murdering his girlfriend five years earlier. His defense attorney will use any means to get his client freed, including uncovering old wounds from Watson's past.

As the case takes a few hard turns, nothing can prepare her for the world she's about to encounter, the past that haunts her, and the truth behind the serial killer's motive.

I really liked the intense, suspenseful and well written story but I wasn't crazy about the narration. It was obvious it was being read and the accents were not very good. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

Stone Cold Rebecca Watson Series, Book 1
: James Glass

This book has an interesting plot, but I feel the dialogue and actions of the defense attorney is unrealistic. I would try the next book in the series.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Kendra Murray. I did not care for the excessive noises at the beginning of some chapters.

Stone Cold is an interesting police procedural featuring Detective Rebecca Watson, a homicide detective in a small town in Florida. The book starts with Rebecca testifying in the retrial of a man convicted of murdering his girlfriend. At the same time, Rebecca and her partner, Francisco, are assigned to investigate a gruesome murder that is quickly followed by multiple murders by the same killer. Both while she is testifying and while she is investigating, Rebecca has flashbacks to the many difficult times in her background, and this helped me to understand her personality better. She seemed very tough and pessimistic, but her history of abandonment and betrayal could do that to anybody, let alone a woman investigating homicides all day long. Although I struggled throughout the book with her personality, I could understand her point of view, and I could see that it made her a great police detective. Luckily, the introspection was overshadowed by the intriguing cases and some tense, action-packed scenes. Overall, I would recommend this book for any fans of intricate detective stories who enjoy a touch of romance, self discovery and family drama. I would like to see what the author has in mind for Rebecca in the future, so hopefully the series will continue on Audible soon.

I enjoyed Kendra Murray's narration. I did not care for the backgrounds noise at the beginning of some chapters, and some parts sounded hollow. However, that is more a production issue than the fault of the narrator. I thought she portrayed Rebecca's personality well, and I especially enjoyed her voices for The Aunties. I would listen to another of Murray's narrations in the future.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.

This the first book in a new series created by James Glass about Eugene Falls Florida detective Rebecca Watson. Watson is a veteran from the Afghanistan struggle turned cop, recently divorced by her cheating husband and is currently in search of a serial killer. She is partnered with a hunky somewhat younger Tony Francisco and has managed for the last 3 years to keep the partnership professional. Rebecca has some personal baggage from her past; her father was murdered when she was quite young and the case was never solved, and she stabbed her step father, while he raped her when she was 12, after she told her mother and she failed to protect her. Needless to say she has a strained and tumultuous relationship with her. So, that sets the stage and characters for the story. Rebecca, in the midst of her investigation of the serial killer case, is called in to testify for the prosecution as an expert witness in a retrial of a man that she put away for murder 5 years ago. This man is granted a mistrial on a technicality and her mother turns up in court as the fiancé of the defendant. This was not a nail biter but it was reasonably good.
