In the frozen wilds of Lapland, an isolated hotel becomes the only sanctuary from the most powerful Arctic storm in living memory. A Russian defector holds the key to a terrifying secret. Pursued by ruthless mercenaries who will stop at nothing to silence them, the defector heads for the hotel, unaware that the man they mean to meet has been murdered.

King must intercept the defector and get the deadly secrets they hold to safety. But whom can he trust? And why, after all these years, has King’s past finally caught up with him here? Facing attack on all sides, and battling the frozen elements, King suspects that the fight most deadly is not always the one you can see.

So the narrators deep British accent is sort of hypnotizing, so I was thinking I’d listen to it as a “bedtime story”. Yeah, that didn’t work. Laying there, unable to sleep or stop listening for hours, tense with anticipation. Says a lot since I’m listening at half speed to a deep accented voice.
These books are definitely getting better. First couple were too disjointed, too many disparate storylines, too much unnecessary detail, main character POV / story only a small part of it. Much more streamlined and focused now.
The author also does an interesting job of making Mr total badass killer-agent very…. Human. Sprinkled in here and there— it doesn’t take up a lot of time. But a few snippets contain a lot. He’s a surprisingly sympathetic character.
I’m sure some people find it stupid, but I like it. Very solid Hero Fiction

So exciting!
