In this steamy post-Civil War saga, the most stubborn woman headed for Texas meets her match in a mystery man with a dark past . . . and together, they must take down a common enemy.

No woman on the wagon train trek to Texas was more alluring than Lydia Langston. No man was more rugged than Ross Coleman . . . and both were running from the past. Lydia once vowed that no man would ever take away her pride, while Ross Coleman has stayed true to his wife, who died giving birth to their son.

But despite their challenges, Lydia and Ross now find themselves together, fighting the same enemy and the same dangerous emotions building inside them . . . and unable to stop the events that will eventually pit a man's deadly vengeance against the strength of a woman's love.

How many times can a woman hear a man she desires call her a whore and a piece of trash and never stand up for herself? Jeez the female lead is a joke and the male lead is allowed to rape and verbally abuse the female lead and she still wants him. Sick.

Abusive male - weak female

I read the written story years ago. I am a fan of the narrator versiion. I am looking to listen to the follow up continued story. Ms. Archer does a good job, speaking clear. I love to read books in the pioneer days and Ms. Brown writes romance that I can lose myself in. Thank you Sandra Brown.

This book is emotional and raw...however, if ur overly sensitive to matters of the world at which time these events occurred....then this book is NOT for you. If you can handle a bit of an anti-hero that comes around in the end and a heroine that hides her dark truths at a time that the world shuns such victims, I encourage you to read this book! It will break ur heart first, but it will slowly be pieced together at the end. Loved it!!!
