Ein Glücksfall für die Historiker: Harry Graf Kessler (1868 - 1937) beschreibt das Zeitgeschehen im Jahr 1928. Das Erscheinen seines Rathenau-Buches schlägt hohe Wellen. Der Kulturbetrieb ist begeistert. Aber der Geheimdienst beanstandet Textpassagen und diplomatische Verstimmungen werden ausgelöst. Ansonsten ist "der Gesellschaftsmensch" Kessler sehr umtriebig. Oft in Frankreich aber auch in Berlin. Zum Beispiel zur Aufführung der brandneuen Dreigroschenoper. Berührend ist das Wiedersehen mit dem Tänzer Vaslav Nijinsky.
