I have read the trilogy and the stories are great. Nothing happens as a formula, as there are turns and twists everywhere. The mystery keeps getting more involved, so it draws you in.
The problem is the narrator. She has a great speaking voice, but does not perform the story ( even though she tries). In this book the voice of the large earl sounds like a girl and sometimes a little girl. The heroine's voice is deeper and more serious, which makes her sound more masculine. It's odd to hear them, so I would recommend reading instead of listening. The love scenes are weird, as the voices seem reversed. Also, this book as many male characters, so her voices for all the other men are very effected and sometimes sounds like a comedy, taking away the seriousness of the plot. A male narrator would have been better. The narrator is not a performer, so she effects some sing-song ways of reading dialogue that makes the evil characters sound like cartoon villans.
I really wish there was more care taken in choosing narrators, as they can make or break a book...and this one breaks it. I really recommend this series, but you might have to listen with "only one ear".

Great story ruined by terrible voices
