The Puritan William Perkins was the first to articulate prayer and preaching in his treatise on hermeneutics and homiletics titled The Art of Prophesying (1592). Perkins considered the pastor to be in the great succession of biblical prophets and apostles. Perkins’ method of preaching consists of interpretation, analysis, and application.

A good book for preachers.

Although very old, this is a great resource for preachers. What a great tool to have.

Clear and concise

Great book and easy to read. Communicates the message well leaving the reader with much to learn.

For preachers who want to get better

This classic on preaching is read well (though not outstandingly) and is easy to listen to.

Prayer is half the battle.

Knowing the text, showing the text, and exhorting all 7 groups of listeners, without any notes, full of fervor for the glory of God and love for the people is what this little nugget is all about.
