Alecia Mueller, a conservative country girl, knows how her life is going to turn out. She's going to grow up, meet "the one," get married, and live in the country. When her best friend Sam comes out as a transgender man, she chooses personal loyalty and friendship over politics. But what if the boy that Sam is becoming is "the one?"

Loved the subject, loved the story. It was great. Even though it only showed mild bullying it was still very very good

Wonderful

This story went into mind-numbing detail, though the basic storyline was a great one. The narrator had a lilting, nice voice, but her delivery was very wooden - almost robotic at points. All in all, I'm still glad I listened to the novel, but I wish it had been edited down by about half. The other option would have been to get into more detail about Sam's transition. The changes he goes through are almost an afterthought.

Great premise, but story drags

Sam was born with a brain that that told him that he wasn’t a girl. This is the story of his transition with the support of his best friend, Alecia. Great descriptions of LGBT people and the challenges they face every day. Great performance.
