Lady Charlotte Beaufort of Beaufort Manor, England, is accustomed to the finer things in life. She’s used to everything going her way. But it’s all about to change.

When her parents force her into an engagement with the duke of Notherington, a man she barely knows, she runs away - traveling aboard a steamer to the New World.

Harry Brown, a silversmith’s apprentice from Greyburn, doesn’t stand a chance with the beautiful Charlotte. Then he runs afoul of the local thug, and he and his sister have to leave town. When Charlotte and Harry cross paths, the attraction is undeniable - but can they overcome generations of social barriers to admit their true feelings for one another?

Take a journey from the beautiful Lakes District of England to untamed Cutter's Creek, Montana Territory, where the rules of love are bound to be broken.

I loved the story about Charlotte and Harry both of them had a lot of growing to do. They manage that by traveling to America then west on the wagon train. The one thing that disappointed me was the narrator,. The first time he used Charlotte’s voice, I bike out in laughter. It grew on me as the story continued, I heard better women’s voices done by male narrators. When I wasn’t distracted by the voice I was really into the story.

Loved it

This historical romance is not like any other that I have ever listened to. It starts out as a regency romance as Charlotte leaves England to escape an arranged marriage. She ends up in New York to find herself in a financial mess and ends up crossing the states to Montana with Camilla and Harry to the "old west". I loved the transitions of the story, each having Charlotte grow a little more into the woman she becomes. The story really picks up a lot when they start out on the wagon train, adding some real romance and suspense to the mix. The characters are well developed, but I especially loved Harry. His character really transformed over the course of the story, and he not only won Charlotte's heart, but mine too. It takes a strong woman to go through what Charlotte did, and Vivi Holt really pulls out all the stops, showing how affairs of the heart are not dictated by arrangement or class. Well written and a complete joy to listen to.

Paul Curtis does an admirable narration. He has a good pace though at times his voices were not easily discernible between characters. As the story progressed, his narration improves, and makes the book a pleasant escape.

This takes place in England and has all the feels of an Regency Era story. Until Harry and Charlotte both leave home on the same day to escape their home situations and decide to head to America. Most of the book is about their journey to Cutter's Creek and the many adventures they had while taking a wagon out west. Harry and Charlotte have a connection, but Charlotte's station in England prevents either Harry or Charlotte from moving forward into a life together.

Very enjoyable sweet romance. This entire series has been full of winners. The narrator did well with pacing, voices and the entire narration in general. I am looking forward to continuing the series.

The Betrothed tells of friendship in an odyssey from England to Montana and an unlikely romance that blossoms in the new world where titles no longer make the man. This is a clean romance with a sprinkling of religion (but not in an obtrusive way).

The narrator of the audiobook sounds like a cowboy, though he does accents for the characters. I'm not sure how well that fits this particular story. He does a nice job of reading the book though.
