Jeb and Jesus take a group of horses to Fort Lyon to sell, and are attacked by Apache. Ute Indians attack the Samuel Brummett spread. An Army detail is sent from Fort Garland to capture or kill the Utes that escaped from the White River Reservation. The detail is attacked repeatedly, making it doubtful if any of the soldiers will get back to the fort alive.

Spike and his two sons go to visit the Brummett ranch. They are confronted by vaqueros from the Francisco ranchero, and a gunfight ensues. On the way back home, they are attacked by Ute Indians. Spike and Sy Hugo Forbes go after three men who robbed the Valley Bank in Colorado Springs. They follow the bandit’s trail to the Ute Pass Trail, and then to Fountain Creek Canyon, where they are attacked by a grizzly bear.

Sy’s mare Betty got frightened, slipped into the creek, and broke her leg. Sy got pinned under Betty and injured his leg. Spike has to take on the remaining two bandits alone, setting up a final encounter.
