From the best-selling author of Why We Get Fat, a groundbreaking, eye-opening exposé that makes the convincing case that sugar is the tobacco of the new millennium: backed by powerful lobbies, entrenched in our lives, and making us very sick.

Among Americans, diabetes is more prevalent today than ever; obesity is at epidemic proportions; nearly 10% of children are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. And sugar is at the root of these, and other, critical society-wide, health-related problems. With his signature command of both science and straight talk, Gary Taubes delves into Americans' history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup. He explains what research has shown about our addiction to sweets. He clarifies the arguments against sugar, corrects misconceptions about the relationship between sugar and weight loss; and provides the perspective necessary to make informed decisions about sugar as individuals and as a society.

What a great book. Not simply about the dietary woes of sugar, but a dense history of the history of the industry.

Great Book

I can't believe I've been doing so many things wrong through the years when I thought I was being healthy. No wonder I was pre-diabetic and struggling with my weight among many other things.

I definitely will not look at sugar in the same way.

Loved it

I liked the approach in how this topic was covered. It was very engaging. It felt like following a trail; hence the title.

A lot of great material. Very educational and eye opening. And the narrator pace and tone of voice was fantastic and very enjoyable.

The Case Against Sugar was, for me, eye opening and shocking. I'm grateful for the depth of Gary Taubes' analysis, just as I'm dismayed at the sugar industry's deceit. My understanding of the danger of sugar to our health is now clear. The Case Against Sugar should be on the required reading list of every FDA official!

Sugar is the unspoken drug, this book illustrates this completely. Vinnie Tortorich (founder of No Sugar No Grains, NSNG) recommended this book and it does not fail to deliver with loads of information about what sugar does to the body. It is an eye opening read that everyone should experience and learn the negative affects of sugar.
