An hilarious and gripping festive whodunnit, perfect for fans of Richard Osman and Agatha Christie

It's Christmas Eve at the Merry Monarch.

Nestled amongst the Yorkshire Dales, the pub is preparing to host its annual scavenger hunt for its rabble of regulars. There's the landlord, Mickey, his wife Sofia and their wayward son, James; local policeman Alex and his supernaturally minded deputy Don; as well as Sita, Mrs Fazarkaley, the Kapoors and Curtis, who's never far from his beloved dog Barkley. Quite the crowd.

And this year, they are interrupted by a knock at the door from Maddie Marlowe, a journalist who was homeward bound to Edinburgh for Christmas - only to be stranded by car failure, and by the snow storm that's closing in on the village.

But Maddie's arrival won't be the only surprise of the night. When the power is cut off and darkness descends, the hunt turns deadly. Maddie and her unexpected Christmas companions must try to find the murderer amongst them, as it seems one of the group would kill to win . . .

I liked the narrator who had a pleasing accent that was easy to understand. I didn't find the book "hilarious" as it was described. Maddie, the main character, overthinks everything, over-describes everything, frets a lot, and I found her a bit preachy. The pace is slow, and I finally increased the playback speed to move things along. The plot was good and kept you guessing. Once the killer was revealed, it proceeded to have Maddie describe the process she and the detective used to figure it out, repeating a lot of things we already knew.
Summary: Good story, good narration, needed to tighten it up a lot.

Love a great Christie-esque murder-mystery and this novel does not disappoint. Great twists throughout. Phenomenal performance! Would recommend for listeners looking for a festive mystery to listen while wrapping and decorating

Cute, festive, wholesome “who-done-it”

I read and listen to Christmas stories the month of December to add to the Christmas spirit. I really enjoyed listening to this murder mystery that was not another cookie cutter Christmas Hallmark story. Loved the character build, and feeling I was a witness at the local pub. What a surprise ending! Cheers!

Not another Christmas Romance
