These are funny stories, seriously. Four short stories set in Oregon. Three in Eastern Oregon. One is about a scalawag who becomes a moonshiner. Another is about a scalawag who builds a mansion in the desert and becomes convinced that a pumpkin is an egg. The third, the title story, is about a Chinese herbal doctor and his fortunes and misfortunes over the first three decades of the last century. The fourth story is set in today's Oregon, about a scalawag (again!) who starts a fraudulent shop called "Doc's Remedies for Moms with Boys", gets busted, and enlists his pals to become gold diggers.
