Running from her past was easy. Outrunning the truth won't be.

September 1862. While armies clash and a nation bleeds, Hattie Logan trades her privileged life for a dangerous one—as a spy for Allan Pinkerton. In a cramped Washington office, she intercepts Confederate mail and cracks enemy ciphers, hungry for a chance to do more.

When that chance comes, it's bigger than she imagined. Posing as the wife of Thom Welton, a courier who slips between Union and Confederate lines, Hattie crosses into enemy territory. As her feelings for Thom deepen into something real, she uncovers a family secret that could destroy them both.

Now Hattie faces an impossible choice: protect the people she loves or complete the mission that could turn the tide of war. With a double agent closing in and her cover unraveling, the past she's been running from may be the only thing that can save her.

Perfect for readers who love courageous women, impossible choices, and love forged in the shadows of war.

The quality of the voice was pleasant. But the word emphasis and punctuation seemed off in enough places I found it distracting. I wish I had not spent my money on this reading

The reading distracts from the story

I disliked the artificial intelligent voice. The voice infliction was completely off. But the story was good.

Ai narration stinks!!! Good story.

This is probably a pretty good book, but sadly the AI reading is beyond distracting. There are things that need human touch. Reading is top of the list.

Virtual Voice HORRIBLE

It seems like there should be more to Hattie's ending. The story ended abruptly on a very sad note. Narration was artificial and lacked emotion.

Horrible ending

A waste of my money and time, it was difficult to follow the characters mostly due to the distraction of the narrative

Narration was the worst .
