In Nero's Rome, Calandra helps her father, a renowned sculptor, complete the most significant commission of his illustrious career. But then a catastrophic fire nearly destroys the imperial city, leaving Calandra reliant on a group of Christians—unusual individuals unlike any she has encountered before. Intrigued by their worship of the Son of an invisible God, Calandra grapples with her mistrust, only to find herself indebted to these believers as they help her rebuild her shattered world.

When Emperor Nero begins constructing his opulent Golden House, the people of Rome grow resentful, suspecting him of starting the fire in order to clear the land for his immense palace. Needing a scapegoat, Nero points at those who follow the Jewish Messiah, forcing Calandra to make an impossible choice between right and wrong, friends and family, love and death.

Great characters with cultural and historical insights into events of sacred importance. I loved it and it has expanded my respect for the early church and their faithfulness in fulfilling Jesus’ great commission. The same Spirit still pursues, saves, and enables whosoever will follow Him🥰

Stirring spiritual journal!

I love Biblical fiction. It’s my favorite genre and this is one of my favorite authors in that genre. An auto pre order. This is the first book in this genre where there was intimacy outside of marriage. I wasn’t sure what I thought about this at first. Upon reflection, sin is sin and the story reflected this. Later in the story the purpose for revealing this sin became apparent. This takes place during the time of Nero and his persecution of the Christians. It depicted the games in which many were executed. It also reflected the deep faith and conviction of these Christians. Several of the main characters became followers of Jesus along the way. For me, it brought so many minor people in the Bible to life. Outstanding narration. Highly recommend.
