Having returned to Herouxville, capital of Vestonia, Max Renard has found himself drawn into the dangerous game of courtly intrigue.

The struggle for influence inside the country is spilling over onto a whole new level. Carl III's foreign enemies are taking advantage of his weakness and ramping up their pressure.

The stakes are high, and Max has to find a delicate balance between his own personal interests and those of the powerful people in this new world. He'll have to use all the cunning and mastery at his disposal if he's going to raise his own profile and stay alive at the same time.

Besides that, Max has a powerful new enemy, one against whom the usual methods are useless. Max will have to remember everything he learned from his adoptive mother if he's going to win this fight.

A tremendous entry

This book series has really blossomed into something wonderful. The mix of spell and blade with political intrigue is something I’m usually not partial to, but here it’s not only become something I enjoy, I can’t wait to start the next book. It has become one of my top 3 book series I’ve read in the past year, I cannot wait to see where the story goes next

The Background setting is very independent and intriguing.

I enjoy this authors work and this book is a great example of his art.

Brilliant

This series is so much fun to read/listen to. Max is savage in the way he manipulate the nobles and events. I love this series and can’t wait to see what he does next.

Short but good… expensive to keep up with this story

If you start combining two books in one I’ll be extremely happy… or at least let us use the kindle unlimited discount. I love this story but 12$ for 8 to 9 hours is crazy. Amazing book all said and done.

can't get enough of Max

I love how in this series so far the books alternate between showing off Max's mortal prowess and political prowess. can't wait to hear the performance of campaign and read about what's next for Max when Rules of Power comes out.
