Jane Whitefield, legendary half-Indian shadow guide who spirits hunted people away from certain death, has never had a client like Dr. Richard Dahlman. A famous plastic surgeon who has dedicated his life to healing, the good doctor hasn't a clue why stalkers are out for his blood. But he knows Jane Whitefield's name---and that she is his only hope. Once again, Jane performs her magic, leading Dahlman in a nightmare flight across America, only a heartbeat ahead of pursuers whose leader is a dead ringer for Jane: a raven-haired beauty who has stolen her name, reputation, and techniques---not to save lives, but to destroy them.©2008 Thomas Perry (P)2009 Tantor Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Action & Adventure Mystery Suspense Thriller & Suspense Detective Adventure Fiction Women Sleuths Espionage Psychological Genre Fiction Spies & Politics Surgery Heartfelt Women's Fiction

I have been reading this series in order. Jane is certainly a unique character, and the series could easily fall into a predictable pattern. Then comes this book and it is one of Perry's best. This is certainly on par with the Butcher Boy series, The Old Man, Death Benefits and the Bomb Maker. This is very very good.

Perry at his best

Narrator is superb.
Mr Perry writes with a deep understanding of his characters,
As well as of history.
Jane is strong, quietly competent and deeply insightful about people.
I own all the Whitefield books-hardbound- and enjoyed this expertly done narration. I never get tired of Perry’s writing.
