Friends until death...

Every year, the Morris Avenue Boys - chums since childhood - gather for a Father's Day reunion dinner. Now late in middle age, these men can bask in the rewards of honest success. So which of them seizes the opportunity that fateful evening to pull out an ice pick and stab to death the group's most celebrated member, novelist Arthur Wein?

As investigator (and former nun) Christine Bennett peels back the layers of the past, 40 years' worth of secrets emerge from the shadows - and the web of lies, theft, adultery, and blackmail woven by the once-innocent Bronx playmates rivals even the darkest plot of the dead man's novels. But in real life, this flesh-and-blood villain may never be caught....

The Morris Avenue Boys, best friends from childhood, met every couple years for a reunion, but this one, set for Father’s Day turned out deadly. From the outside, their lives look normal, calm and successful. But there’s two sides to every story. Or maybe nine stories . . . one for each of the Morris Avenue Boys. When Dr. Morton Horowitz went to the restroom where the “boys” were having dinner, he found his friend, famous writer Arthur Wein, dead, stabbed to death with an ice pick. The men, all very different from one another, clung to one common thread, their childhood friendship, and swore that none of them would have wanted to kill Arthur Wein. Now Christine Bennett, former nun, married to Jack, NYPD detective and mother to toddler, Eddie, is on the hunt for his killer. All the cast of characters from the series are included in this book, which I love: Christine’s cousin, who is a mentally handicapped adult, and calls Christine, Kicks, Sister Joseph, Christine's mentor and friend from the convent, and all Christine and Jack's neighbors, and friends. Jack is about to start his new job as an attorney, and is full of the jitters. The mystery of the murder always stumps me. Great book and series!
