Out of the chaos and uncertainty of war, a shy young bookseller comes into her own in a short story of unexpected love, daring, and empowering courage by New York Times bestselling author Pam Jenoff.

It’s 1943 in London. Paige Miller, an ordinary shopgirl at the fabled department store Selfridges, falls for Danny, an American GI who comes by the books counter at the same time every day. As she slowly lets him into her heart, Paige realizes that Danny is keeping a secret. One that could change the course of the war—and both their lives.

Pam Jenoff’s The Forgotten Chapter is part of Blaze, a collection of short stories about incendiary women across the decades who dare to defy convention. They can be read or listened to in one sitting.

There numerous stories of what could have been set in Europe during WW2. This was a sweet one.

Paige works in a bookstore in a department store. One day she meets Danny. He's in the military and asks her out. She agrees and they start to date and eventually get engaged. Her story is one of loss and courage. She tells her daughter about it years later when her lost engagement ring shows up. I liked this story a lot and it's characters.

I don't usually go for short stories; I tell myself I like more character development. But I like this author and decided to give it a go. Glad I did, it's part of the Audible Original library.

There were likely lots of stories coming out of England like this in 1943. The Yanks were coming and going at a frantic pace. Still these two found each other and truly enjoyed the time they had.

I love a historical fiction that takes place during WWII. And as much as this played to my urge to devour anything with that time period, it also REALLY tugged at my heartstrings. This was sad, as so many stories are. But it was also inspiring. There is also the fact that a woman did something incredible that contributed to the victory of the war and she was not acknowledged, as per usual. But this is fiction, and I'm letting it go. Still a good short story.
