If you want to discover the captivating history of the Gilded Age, then pay attention...

From a modern perspective, it may seem that the United States was a major powerhouse since its early days. Its present-day economic, military, and cultural strength gives out an aura of everlasting magnificence, possibly even that it was God-given. That’s how some may see it, at least. However, the truth is far from it. The American story started hundreds of years ago when it was a lowly European colony, far from the grandeur and magnificence the world associates with it today. Generations worked hard to gradually transform the humble, dependent colonies into bustling independent states, which were united under a single flag.

This transformation from a weak and relatively poor dominion into a world-class international power was undoubtedly a long process, yet it achieved its peak in the late 19th century. At that time, the US managed to achieve change in many aspects, from economic and social to political and military. This period of growth has become known as the Gilded Age.

In The Gilded Age: A Captivating Guide to an Era in American History That Overlaps the Reconstruction Era and Coincides with Parts of the Victorian Era in Britain Along with the Belle Époque in France, you will discover topics such as:

  • Building the Foundation
  • From Chaos to the Gilded Age
  • Economic Boom and Bust
  • Ups and Downs of Politics and the Government
  • Turbulent Winds of Change in the US
  • The Transformation of Life
  • And much, much, more!

So if you want to learn more about the Gilded Age, buy this audiobook now!

While fans of Julian Fellowes’s Gilded Age may be gagging on the luxurious costumes and sumptuous sets, part of the fun is sorting out fact from fiction in the HBO period drama. With a mix of invented characters and actual historical figures—such as society queen Caroline Astor and African American newspaper editor and civil rights leader T. Thomas Fortune—enthusiasts have plenty of resources available so they can learn the truth about the extravagant era when wealthy railroad magnates and other arrivistes were upending late 19th-century New York City society and culture.

while I knew a lot of what occurred during this time period, this reading gave me a better understanding of all that info.

most of this focused on US history, n only briefly mentioned other parts of the world, due to being known under different titles/descriptions.

only slight gripe with the narrator, had to do with him sometimes making it sound as though he had more to say, but just abruptly ending things (that was the reason I scored him slightly less than perfect in a previous review). otherwise, he's still my favorite, of the 2 I've listened to, so far

short history of what would become the modern US

Covers many inventions and cultural shifts that formed the foundation of todays modern world. I was amazed at just how much was accomplished in the late 19th Century. Impressive!
