Strong-minded and independent Julia Bernay comes to London to study medicine and become a doctor - a profession that has only just opened up to women. She witnesses a serious accident and, through her quick actions, saves the life of an ambitious young barrister named Michael Stephenson. Coming from a family that long ago lost its money and its respectability, Michael Stephenson has achieved what many would have thought was impossible. Hard work and an aptitude for the law have enabled him to rise above his family's stigma and set him on the path to wealth and recognition. But his well-laid plans are upended when the accident brings Julia into his life. Michael soon discovers he's met a woman every bit as stubborn and determined to make her mark on the world as he is. Sparks fly - but will they find common ground?

I enjoyed this listen. I liked the main character, Julia very much and her determination to pursue her dream. I thought the author did a good job bringing to life some of the struggles women faced as they entered the “man’s domain” of becoming a doctor. I also thought the male lead was interesting too…not just the run of the mill duke or lord who falls in love with the poor girl. I liked the peak at the 1800s British court system as well. I did not listen to the first book yet, but jumped into this one since the storyline was more appealing to me. I plan to go back & listen to the first one now as well. The narrator had a great tone & was able to do some different accents. I will be looking forward to the next in the series.

Another good historical fiction

The ending was not as good as it could have been 🫤 but the story on the whole was well done.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m already into my second. I loved all the historical facts in addition to clean romance. I also love how the main female character was grounded in her faith. Very enjoyable I highly recommend it!

Inspirational Romance!

This is a clean, Christian read (or listen). I like the narrator so much I look for her name on audible, as everything she narrates is fantastic. The story has a feminist theme--women in London at the turn of the century who want to become doctors. It is not exciting, but rather interesting and well written. It is a love story as well.

Excellent Historical Feminist Novel
