A new devastating psychological thriller from the author of the best-selling The Good Mother.

Angela was just a baby when she was abandoned, and a children's home is no place to grow up. When manager Ray takes girls off to his 'den' in the garden, they always come back crying....

So, when wealthy couple James and Rosemary come to choose a child to adopt, Angela is desperate to escape. Years later, Angela starts to search for her birth mother, Evelyn, hoping to heal the scars of her childhood. But strange and sinister events start to unfold. And Evelyn fears she may not survive her daughter's return.

Great story that was well written and well performed. But, truly unhappy with how the story ended.

Surprised

I never write reviews about books because I don't like to critize someone's hard work.So I dont want to critize the book.I just want to warn you that to me it started boring and then finally about the middle it started to get good and then at the end I was lost. And by lost I mean like how the heck are you throwing that in out of nowhere and not going in detail.judge for yourself but by the time it gets good its at the end and then I felt it was ended too abruptly

From boring to good to uggghhh

Great story with a nice twist but what happened to Angela???????????????? Did I just miss that part or did it leave it up to the reader to decide?

*SPOILER ALERT*

this reader continues to take very deep breaths between every sentence. It is very distracting and a bit disgusting. i have about 200 books already listened to in my Audible and I have never heard anything like this. If I come across another book that interests me but is read by Imogen Church, i will not purchase it.

Terrible Reader

It is sad, that this story, which is well told, has such a huge issue with medical accuracy. The father in this story has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and told it is early stage. Yet he gets chemo, the kind that weakens your immune system and wears you down.
Well except that is not how prostate cancer is treated. There is no real chemo treatment other than hormones which don't affect your immune system or have the type of side effects mentioned in the story. Not even advanced aggressive prostate cancer, like my husband had. During his initial diagnosis and when his cancer returned, we did a lot of reading and researching. And went to a world class prostate cancer specialist. And we discussed how there is no chemo type treatment that is used for any form of prostate cancer. They could have so easily chosen another type of cancer for the character to have, and then the chemo would have been accurate and believable.

So if you can ignore this one aspect, it is a decent story, narration is well done

Author needs to do more research on cancer
