It all started with a woman and a lighthouse.

The House That Adelia Built spins a tale full of love, lies, and betrayal at the hands of a man Adelia calls Augustus - her own husband.

In the late 1800s, Augustus finds a job as lighthouse keeper on a beautiful but isolated island. He can’t wait to bring his new bride home to the lighthouse set on majestic bluffs, which have laid claim to many shipwrecks. Augustus soon suffers from the effects of self-induced isolation, as Adelia watches him slowly lose his grip on reality until he turns mad, bringing forth dire consequences.

Meet Hope, a modern-day quiet, quirky young woman with a case of agoraphobia - or so it would seem. She feels an inexplicable pull toward the lighthouse and the bluffs beyond. Hope struggles with her internal battle and seeks to find the truth about her unsettling, recurring nightmares. Maybe then, she can discover why she has always felt so alone and unusual.

Enter Clooney, a handsome, unassuming stranger who soon becomes so much more to Hope. The very woman who has guarded her heart in the past will soon find herself wrapped in a web of denial, leading to a heart-wrenching reality. For every truth she exposes, more heartache is found. Hope must come face-to-face with her worst fears, as she uncovers the mystery surrounding her spellbinding connection to the lighthouse.

Adelia lives the ideal life with love and promise of a bright future with her husband. That all changed when she left to live as a lighthouse keepers wife. The loneliness can really make someone go mad. Her husbands befriends Devon and Adelia ends up falling for him. Adelia is met with Hope that is there to tell her story of love and death. I really enjoyed the twists in the book and Mya O'Malley really made you feel for the characters. I like how she was able to weave the stories into on. I cant wait to read more of what she puts out.

This story was great! I loved the two different characters of Adelia from the 1800s and Hope at present day. This story was full of twists and turns with a mystery surrounding a lighthouse that both Adelia and Hope are connect to. Very intriguing.

A wonderful puzzle!

I am not one that normally likes the back and forth of time periods, but this was done so well. The past with Adelia and the present with Hope had you putting together bits and pieces of their lives. O'malley did an amazing job weaving their stories together. The twists and turns will have you at the edge of your seat. If you love a good mystery this is definitely the book for you! I am on my way to the authors page now to get more of her books!!

The House that Adelia Built intertwines the stories of 2 women, Adelia and Hope. Adelia-1875, living as a wife to Augustus, the lighthouse keeper. Hope-2017, living by the lighthouse and giving tours of the old property. When Hope starts having dreams that she can't explain, she begins to dig into the history of the lighthouse. A delight to listen to, with unexpected twists and turns and an ending I didn't see coming. The pacing of the story is great. The reason for 4 instead of 5stars is that I felt like the time with Adelia jumped around a lot and should have been smoother.

This is my first audible story by this author but I will say that it is my favorite. I enjoyed this narrator and the story she told. With this story it is like listening to two different stories in one. I think the narrator did a good job of making the two stories separate but yet one and not confusing. There are a few characters in this story that are lovable and connectable. This story revolves around a lighthouse. The first couple moved there after they were married back in 1800. After a while he started changing and she was confused on why. Then it brings us to the current day where you have Hope who is a woman who is a little lost and has low self esteem. She is having nightmares at night and is not sure what they mean. When she starts investigating why she is having these dreams, what will she uncover? There is something about the lighthouse that has drawn her to it. She also meets a man who they spend quite a bit of time together. What will happen when they start developing feelings for each other? I enjoyed listening to both stories about the past and the present. I really enjoyed listening to this and I highly recommend it.
