Set in the galaxy on the edge of an apocalypse, this epic fantasy adventure follows a gifted climbers quest through a world of unspeakable danger.

From the creator of the Land of Elyon comes a riveting adventure set in an extraordinary satellite world—created as a refuge from a dying Earth—that begins to collapse and forever change the lives of its inhabitants. Edgar, a gifted climber, is a lonely boy scaling the perilous cliffs that separate the three realms of Atherton: a humble fig grove; a mysterious highland world of untold beauty and sinister secrets; and a vast wasteland where he must confront an unspeakable danger that could destroy the people of Atherton. When Edgar discovers a book which contains the history of Atherton's origins and ultimate apocalypse, his world—quite literally—begins to turn inside out.

The story was amazing, overall I loved it! I will definitely be reading the second book! 5 star! I strongly suggest this book to adventure and mystery lovers.

Patrick Carman's book gets decent narration by Jonathan Davis, but some editor must have decided that people needed it to sound like a movie track in the background. The music chosen is repetitive, too loud, and does not enhance the story at all. It actually detracts and makes the book much harder to listen to. I would actually spend money to get this again, without the bad background tracks. Just give me the book. Chapter separation music is ok, if you must have something.

Narration decent, background music awful

I absolutely love this story. This is the best fictional story I've read in a very long time so believable and very creative I recommend this book and read stories to anyone who tries to read them!

I read this book years ago and shared it with my oldest kids who loved it too. I now can listen to it anytime I want and it just draws me right back to those good times with the kids and their adventures.

Love Atherton series.
