After nearly ten years in the army, Hamish Campbell is ready to settle in and call a place home. His sights are set on Dalmore House, the Campbell family estate seized by the Crown after the '45 uprising. To have any chance at all of regaining it, he must not only find the money to pay off the estate’s debts but also persuade the man who has charge of it to relinquish the property into the hands of a Jacobite’s son.

With the help of his brother-in-arms, Hamish finds employment at an inn near to Dalmore’s overseer, putting him in an ideal location to seek the man’s favor. Ava MacMorran cannot marry Angus MacKinnon. Any fate would be preferable. Escaping her father’s threats of force, she sets out for the home of the childhood friend she knows will help her—perhaps even marry her. But when the merchant meant to take her there is nowhere to be found and Ava is mistaken for a long-awaited inn servant, she determines to go along with the misconception until she can be rescued by her friend.

With Ava ignorant of Hamish’s goals and Hamish unaware that he is harboring the fugitive daughter of the lynchpin of his plan, attachment between them deepens and the threat of discovery looms large, making a satisfactory outcome seem all but impossible.

Very well written and read! Authentic narration that you loose yourself into the story. Thank you both.

Delightful

As the third book in this series of four I relished revisiting the characters from previous books and getting insights into their continuing stories. I love Hamish! He is such a good man. Though not quite as adventuresome or tension-filled as the first two books, this is a sweet love story that keeps the reader interested . And as she was in the two previous installments, this voice actor is simply fabulous! She makes the books come alive with a truly authentic accent. Highly recommend!

A wonderful story and in wonderful series

Excellent! I really enjoyed this book, just as much (if not more) than the last one. It has the same slower pace as the rest of the series, but manages to be gripping despite that. I love the world Keyes has built and am thoroughly invested in her characters.

This book didn’t feel quite as dark as the first two. There is danger, of course, and our evil bad guy persists, but it lacks the despair Christina (1) and Malcom (2) endured. I’m sure that contributed to my increased enjoyment of the book, in addition to Ava and Hamish both being excellent MCs.

Now on to book 4 🤓

Content:
There is no foul language or sex. There is some violence and the FMC’s father attempts to force her into marriage with an abusive man. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kisses. There is no mention of faith or God.

I've only recently come across this author and I've read almost all the books in this series in just a couple of weeks. Her writing flows smoothly and the characters are all fun to follow. This book doesn't disappoint and the narrator is easy to listen to, although I do wish she would lower her voice just a bit more to distinguish the male characters from the female ones. The author tells a good story but still keeps it clean without any sex scenes.

Good Storyline clean romance

This whole series is so exceptional. The storyline is moving and I greatly enjoyed the well placed humor throughout. I believe this book is my favorite of the series so far.
The narration is superb. I love the Scotish brogue done ever so well, and the vocal expression plus the pacing and rhythm of her read is most enjoyable. I found it well worth the money and time.
