The crack German cruiser Prinz Luitpold had always been lucky in battle. To the beleaguered army on the Baltic coast she was their one remaining symbol of hope. But it is the summer of 1944, and on every front the war is going badly for Germany. When the order comes to leave the Baltic to attack and destroy enemy shipping in the Atlantic, Kapitan zur See Dieter Hechler knows that once out in this vast killing ground it will only be a matter of time before the hunter becomes the hunted.

No one else writes a naval yarn as Mr Reeman. Nice pace, good character development even for the secondary characters. And as always quick paced battle scenes. A great read or listen.

more internal dialog not related to naval plot and abord ship and too much non nautical drivel. The most annoying part of this book is that the narrator does a reasonable job narrating but ruining his efforts by lowering his volume at the end of many many sentences which was then very hard to hear- in a recorded book intended to be listened to while doing other things or in the car etc . I missed too much in an environment of not particularly loud average background noise due to the narrator, almost whispering in a low register at end end of many many sentences for dramatic effect I suppose. very annoying.

unusual perspective
