With a longing for adventure, the last thing Phillipa Peppiwell wants is to marry. After a painful betrayal by a man she trusted, she is wary when she unwittingly catches the attention of roguishly handsome - and sinfully tempting - Lord Anthony Thornton. Forbidden desires she secretly yearns for threaten to crumble her icy facade and reveal a past scandal best kept buried.

Dissatisfied with his empty life, Lord Anthony seeks a deep and lasting connection... and finds himself intrigued by the Ice Maiden of the haute monde. Undaunted by Phillipa's aloof nature and her distaste for the idea of matrimony, he sets out to thaw the bewitching beauty by enticing her with adventures of the most sensual type. But he, too, hides a scandalous secret... and if it's discovered it could rip them apart.

I love this author’s books, but this narrator is distracting. I couldn’t focus on the story because of the voices.

The narrator’s male voice is not good

The author depends on far too many repeated phrases from book to book which takes one out of the story. Also the voice actor has a tendency to mispronounce many words which grates on the nerves of the listener. For instance pronouncing the word rabid as though it rhymes with haybed.

Bottom Line: Not Stacy Reid’s finest work, but still entertaining I’d give it a 3.5/5, total, if i could. I love Stacy Reid’s books but so far this series has been disappointing, especially considering how much I’ve enjoyed her other works. Don’t get me wrong, the story is decent and the passion is certainly there and it started out well enough but then it just seemed to fizzle out. Of course the narrator certainly did NOT help as she was pretty terrible. As others have mentioned, her male voices were somewhat atrocious (the main male character’s voice wasn’t too bad, but all the other male characters were almost comical) and the accent(s) she gave the characters were wildly inconsistent — particularly the American/Bostonian accents, which ranged from more British-American to outright Suh-thuhn (southern) Belle — making scenes with more than one character (e.g., all scenes) confusing as it was difficult to discern who was supposed to be speaking.

Not bad, Not great…

Whoever decided to tell THIS story AFTER the other made a mistake. Knowing how it ends and most of the story before it began makes it an awful bore! My biggest problem is that I want to know if the end of this book gives away the first book or if this one was actually the first after all. Of course that would still ruin this one! But I just can't do it. I'm not in love with the delivery or desirous of the missing details to go any farther. Three hours from the end and I quit. I figure this way book three will get to be unexpected for sure since I really do like the series so far....

This is the first, not the second!

The book is good I just wish there was more. there wasn't anything missing. the story was great I just wanted more detail in length in regards to the whole story. There could have been more with the Romantic scenes, maybe more dialogue with the non-romantic scenes between the main characters and more detail between Anthony and his parents. It had more detail than the story before this book. I'm glad I bought this book for $2.

Mediocre
