Rodney Louis Tompkins
Carter Godwin Woodson (1875-1950) was an American historian, journalist, author of over 30 books and the founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. As founder of the quarterly research journal The Journal of Negro History in 1916, Woodson has been referred to as the "father of black history". The Journal was one of the first scholarly journals to cover African American history and gave black scholars the opportunity to publish articles examining African American history and culture while also documenting the black experience in the United States.
