Long ago the earth changed. Billions died. Cities crumbled and civilization as we know it perished.

But humanity's drive to live is a stubborn thing, and in the ashes of the old world a new world was reborn. Born of bullets, battle-hardened men and woman scratched out a life on the empty plains of the land now known only as "The Waste". But in a world where every day is a fight for survival a full belly is a luxury, and living long enough to see another rising sun is a success.

In The Land of Falling Stars join young Rock Wanderer as he travels the Waste searching for his mother and doing what it takes to stay alive, all while deciding just what sort of a man he wants to grow into.

If he lives long enough to become a man at all, that is.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and it is short enough, at just over an hour long, to do so.

Any additional comments?

More than a hundred years after the fall of civilisation, a fourteen year old boy stands alone in the desert, the Waste. More than a year has passed since he was sold into slavery for a handful of bullets but he escaped and now tries to survive and search for his mother. He traps rabbits for food and for clothes. But tonight he is hungry. Then he comes across two men, one big and one small, with a fire and the sweet smell of cooking meat and is invited to join them in exchange for a secret...
This delightful short story, written and narrated by Troy Hallewell, is a prequel to the imaginative After Civilisation series. Rock survives the harsh Wasteland and is one of the main protagonists in the first book, Razorwire. This story gives the reader insights into how the man was formed and how he came to own dragon skin armour.

"What are you doin', boy? Run."

I feel that this short is a pretty good introduction to the main story. For me, someone who hasn't read the main series, this definitely sets up expectations for the world and types of characters. The narration was good, maybe slightly lower audio quality than I might have expected, but was performed well. The bandit characters felt a little cookie cutter, the small smart man and the big simple man, but they served their purpose nicely. In the end I enjoyed the story and it was a nice quick listen. I definitely am going to be checking out RazorWire and possibly the rest of the series.

Overall a very enjoyable listen

This short story seem like a perfect introduction to the "After Civilization" book series. The story is less than an hour and a half, so it feels more like a first chapter than a complete story. It follows a young boy named Rock as he wanders "The Waste" by himself. All alone, Rock runs into two bandits, who give chase. The story is intriguing enough to compel me to try out the first book in the series. Aside from certain character voices sounding a little too similar, Troy Hallewell gives a solid performance.

Just enough to whet one's appetite

This short story is about how the main character, Rock, at the age of Fourteen, and how he came across his Dragon Skin Armor.

Rock was sold into slavery for bullets, however, he escaped and began a search for his mother.

One evening he comes across two men, and the smell of cooking food.

I don't want to give too much away about the story line.

The Land of Falling Stars, is the prequel to "RazorWire: After Civilization".

Overall, this was a quick read with a Futuristic Western Flare..

Troy Hallewell did well with the narration, only a bonus that he is the author.
