He thought he’d forget her. He was wrong. When a battle-hardened warrior returns home from years of campaigning, he discovers that the lass he left behind never married—a lass who will be his undoing. Second chance and redemption on Medieval Isle of Mull.

After a decade campaigning against the English, Loch Maclean returns to the Isle of Mull to find his father dead and his lands in disarray. Cattle thieving is rife, and the isle’s clans are at each other’s throats. Loch’s got his work cut out for him—but he’s distracted by a woman from his past.

Mairi Macquarie is even more beguiling than he remembers, only these days she’s no longer innocent and biddable. These days, she’s got no time for him at all. Or so it seems.

Mairi was heartbroken when the laird’s roguish son went off to war and never came home. She got on with her life and tried to forget him. But now he’s back, battle-hardened, and cynical—and even more dangerous than ever.

The attraction between Loch and Mairi burns hotter than a Beltane fire, yet they both are looking for different things. He wants her to warm his bed, but what she wants is love.

And neither is prepared to compromise.

THE LASS HE LEFT BEHIND is Book One of an exciting new Medieval Scottish Romance trilogy by Jayne Castel—full of flawed yet irresistible Highland warriors and determined Scottish lasses!

A story of homecoming, expectations, an alliance between feuding clans and a chance of a couple reuniting.
Feeling frustrated with the way Loch treated the two most important women in his life (his sister and the woman he left behind) I kept reading waiting for his ‘light bulb’ moment to happen and for him to come to his senses.
Will he realise in time or lose them both forever?
I thoroughly enjoyed Jayne’s story and loved all of the characters, looking forward to more stories on Mull in the upcoming series.
I have just finished listening to this audiobook narrated by Isla Ross.
I found her reading expressive and engaging, also perfect for the time period this story was set in.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.

What a great start to a series.

This is a good story. Won't give a summary of the story since the publisher does a good job on that. Nice development of the characters. The plot moves along at a good pace. Most of the story ARCs are answered at the end. However one will be addressed in the next book. I listened to this audio book on a Amazon fire with Audible. The narrative was delivered at a good speed. Pleasant voice with a nice Scottish accent. I recommend this audio book. This audio was offered as an ARC for an honest and volunteered review.

This historical romance audiobook whisked me straight to the atmospheric Medieval Isle of Mull. Jayne Castel’s signature captivating writing style, an auto-listen for me, was on full display in the rich world-building! I still feel like I haven't left its shores.

I loved the feisty heroine, Mairi, and wanted to (lovingly) throttle the brooding hero, Loch. The narration was exquisite, delivering a full-cast feel with one brilliant voice. While the story's pacing wobbled slightly, I was too busy ignoring the real world to care. I'm already craving the next installment!

My advice? Get your wine and snacks ready before you hit play. You won't want to pause!
