In the wake of the Solar Union’s stunning victory over the Tokomak - the masters of the galactic community - humanity has been invited to send a diplomatic mission to the Kingdom of Harmonious Order, one of the oldest and most significant races in known space. It is an opportunity that cannot be missed, a chance to forge ties with a powerful ally. And so a lone starship is dispatched to the galactic core to open discussions....

But when that starship runs into a deadly trap, she and her crew must battle their way home before they are merely the first casualties in a renewed war.

I just want to settle an asteroid in this universe. I loved the suspense. I also like the character development. The captain is definitely not the same afterwards.

awesome

This is a great introduction to the coming war for Earth and humanities survival. Lots of good battles and ingenious survivals. Book 5 is going to be a humdinger.

The war is just beginning

I've enjoyed the series thus far but the change in narrator was unwelcome. Every other sentence is delivered like a marine is looking out to sea after the Normandy landing in ww2, dramatic and full of angst.

Great story, cringey narration.

This author , editorship and production unit delivers if not the Best , then Better Than Most every-time . Few in this day and age in any given series can say that in My opinion .

As always an incredible experience .

I enjoyed the book and Jeffery Kafer does a good job on the narration but it took me a few minutes to understand that when he was saying "oni" he was talking about the Office of Naval Intelligence! Mispronounced military terms and acronyms really take me out of the moment.

ONI is pronounced O.N.I.!!!
