This a fictionalized account of a true story - the tale of how two rough Maine woodsmen took a young Theodore Roosevelt under their wing in 1878 and introduced him to the beautiful but unforgiving woodlands of the Northeast. Under their guidance, the frail but strong-willed New Yorker becomes a worthy outdoorsman, an experience which significantly shaped the world view of the man poised to become the 26th President of the United States thirteen years later.

I am a big Roosevelt fan so it was fun to learn of some experiences that shaped him. He was determined to test himself in the rugged wilderness of Northern Maine.

I learned a great deal listening to this book. Not only is it endearing and inspirational, but I learned many things of the Northeast of our country that were unfamiliar to me. It was a delightful story of the youth of a president and a part of his life that influenced the character of our country. I had no idea of the personal experiences in his life that led to the conservation of the wildlife of the United States

A wonderfully enlightening story of Theodore Roosevelt
