“From exactly midnight until daybreak, the Namiya General Store advice box will be reopening for one night only.” When three delinquents hole up in an abandoned general store after their most recent robbery, to their great surprise, a letter drops through the mail slot in the store’s shutter. This seemingly simple request for advice sets the trio on a journey of discovery as, over the course of a single night, they step into the role of the kindhearted former shopkeeper who devoted his waning years to offering thoughtful counsel to his correspondents. Through the lens of time, they share insight with those seeking guidance, and by morning, none of their lives will ever be the same. By acclaimed author Keigo Higashino, The Miracles of the Namiya General Store is a work that has touched the hearts of readers around the world. This story was such a nice surprise from Higashino Keigo's usual books. I've always loved his mysteries, but this was an incredible spin on his usual plot twists and ability to weave the truth behind the narrative together. Moreover, the performance for this audio book was spectacular. It's usually a bit jarring to hear most native-English speakers try to pronounce Japanese names or words for other audio books; however, all three narrators for this book did a wonderful job staying true to the original language while providing an immensely entertaining performance in English. I'd highly recommend this book and audio book to anybody who enjoys Higashino's previous books, mysteries, or simply wants to read/listen to a heartwarming story.

I wasn't sure what to expect as I bought this on a whim after reading the summary but I was drawn into the characters and how the stories where all somehow connected. I really recommend this audible book.

Beautiful story, one I will be thinking about for awhile. Stick with it, the story and intertwining of lives captured me and left me looking forward to what would happen next. The pearls of wisdom will leave you reflective. Loved the ending.

A Gem

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it highly. It provides glimpses of a different kind of Japanese psyche. It’s not just shoguns and yakusa militaristic spirit that defines Japan as a culture but also the deeply poignant humanistic soul that is excellently portrayed in this well woven tapestry of stories.

The story was okay but hard to listen to because I disliked the narration so much. It reminded me of the awkward English dubbing of Korean movies.
