Louise Bridges has the perfect life.

A loving husband, Patrick. Two adorable children. A comfortable home.

So when PC Becca Holt arrives to break the news that Patrick has been killed in an accident, she thinks Louise’s perfect world is about to collapse around her.

But Louise doesn’t react in the way Becca would expect her to on hearing of her husband’s death. And there are only three plates set out for dinner, as if Louise already knew Patrick wouldn’t be home that night…

The more Becca digs, the more secrets she uncovers in the Bridges’ marriage – and the more she wonders just how far Louise would go to get what she wants…

Is Louise a loving wife – or a cold-hearted killer?

This is the exact kind of story I love to engrossed myself in. Perfectly delivered suspense. Absolute perfection beginning to end!

Imogen Church's performance is fantastic, as always.
I found the story to be slow, passive. It's a good story, but I was still left wanting.

Slow, Passive - Fantastic Narration

This story took about 2/3’s of the way through the book to get interesting. I think the only reason I stuck with it is because I identify with the main character (probably the only reason I was rooting for her too).

Extremely slow start

If part of it must be boring, than I’d rather it be in this order (first half boring, then great second half). I would probably listen to any boring book as long as the narrator was Imogen Church. She has a way of increasing the value of words exponentially. I was interested in the book as it began but was still bored for quite a while. When the book gets deeper into the personal feelings of the characters, everything changes. There were no “shocking” twists. They were still good twists, but not the kind that blow you away with surprise. I was thinking early on “so not a psychological thriller”. Later I said “a pure psychological (story) to beat out most others. Bottom line, the second half makes it easily worth it.

Boring First Half, Riveting Second Half.

Great narration by Imogene Church as always. The story was enjoyable, I would give her books another try. Something about the pacing was off. When it was almost over I didn’t have any idea there was only 9 minutes left. You should know when you’re in the big final wrap up. More story / character development needed.

Pretty Good
