Prisoner, Pet, or Prey

Finally able to communicate via a mix of sign language and drawings, Jessica now needs answers. Why was her planet destroyed by giant alien cats? What happened to her family? Why was she held in captivity for so long? Why is she being leashed? And most importantly, why has she been forced to breed, and what do they want with her and her unborn child?

For the first time in her life, Marsee has a friend, the tiny biped cub in her family's care. More than anything, she wants to help Little Flower recover from the trauma she's experienced and help prove to the Council that the cub is more than just an animal. Only Marsee's instinct sees the cub as yummy-smelling prey, too.

Having found out what happened to the young cub in his care, Councilor Jeran Chenzira must make an impossible decision: protect his family, or protect the cub and her entire species—a species that might just be too violent to be worth saving.

Okay, so I just came across this series recently. I finished book 1 shortly before book 2 was released on audio. I immediately picked this one up as soon as it went live. I had to know what happened after book 1. The story is so interesting. There is a lot of social stigma covered, but it's handled beautifully so far. For those who both love and know cats, you will get a kick out of some of the antics of the big alien cats. They are just big ol kitties really. I love how the series sort of spins the human/house cat relationship in a way. But also add in more sentience (possibly... not that we really know what our cats are thinking.) for the big cats, and the cat/human dynamic, but some of their antics are definitely grounded in real world cats. I love it so much.

The narrators are amazing and do such a fantastic job! There are a couple spots the audio is a little low, but that's really only specifically one character and it makes sense for their volume to be a bit low. I love the voices and the feelings that come through the narration.

I am just slightly sad that I have to read the rest since the audiobooks will take a bit to produce lol. But it's my understanding that the first 2 are pretty self-contained, so if you are on the fence, just pick this one and the first up. They are that good!

I love this series!
