I can’t believe I had to pay for this audiobook. The reader’s odd choice of various nasal tones when quoting various characters was distracting and seemed to make a mockery of the author’s portrayals.

But the outright ignorance of pronunciation throughout the book was appalling. Because the reader sounded like an American, her butchering of French names (loo-vray for Louvre; callays for Calais, nyce for Nice) may have been forgivable in a grammar school student, but even common English was butchered (pro-offered for proffered, du-RO for Darrow, and on and on. These were not occasional, but dominated every chapter.

Listen for yourself and blush.
