*The Sunday Times Bestseller*

On 23 September, 2005, at the Joiners Arms in Southampton, Frank Turner played his last gig with his hardcore band, Million Dead. On the laminates that listed the tour dates, the entry for 24 September simply read: 'Get a job.'
Deflated, jaded and hungover, Frank returned to his hometown of Winchester without a plan for the future. All he knew was that he wanted to keep playing music.

Cut to 13 April 2012, over a thousand shows later (show 1,216 to be precise), and he was headlining a sold-out gig at Wembley Arena with his band The Sleeping Souls.

Told through his tour reminiscences, this is the blisteringly honest story of Frank's career from drug-fuelled house parties and the grimy club scene to filling out arenas, fans roaring every word back at him. But more than that, it is an intimate account of what it's like to spend your life constantly on the road, sleeping on floors, invariably jetlagged, all for the love of playing live music.

I found myself a little saddened to realize I’d reached the end of this one. Going on walks or longer drives for work while listening to stories that gradually display the growth of Frank’s career from playing in basements and bars to selling out arenas felt like having him in the room telling stories among friends. A great book, narrated by a great guy. Here’s hoping he decides to write another tour journal further down the line.

It is the least I can do for Frank Turner- leave a good review of his book- because what his music has done for me has no words…I invite everyone to read/listen to this if they want to change their life for the better…because we’re not dead yet;-)

Excellent, excellent, excellent

Just like Henry Rollins "Get In The Van", you don't need to be a fan to enjoy this book. I love Frank Turner's music, and books read by the author. And, I loved it. All of the events in the book took place before I found his music, or music by many of the people he mentions in the book. (The idea that I could have seen Frank Turner and the Menzingers at a house show!) Anyway, I really enjoyed hearing how much effort went in to becoming the artist he is now.

Loved hearing the story from one of my favorite performers. Happy all the hard work has paid off and happy his music is becoming more popular.

Also he mentioned being called a "sell out" a few times in this by fans. As someone who has been a fan for 15 years I do not feel that way. I simply feel when you have good music it becomes popular by its own merit. Alt
Wishing this artist more success in the future!

Interesting and Unique!
