Critic reviews

"Flanagan builds suspense with well-practiced skill and a flair for the dramatic. Tension increases right up to the last page. . . . The writing offers adventure, wit, and sufficient background information for those new to the Ranger’s Apprentice series to follow the story, but it will be enjoyed most by those who have read one or more of the three previous books in the Royal Ranger subseries, featuring the first girl apprenticed to a ranger." --Booklist

Fun book to listen to. The one thing that gets old very fast is how often the author goes on and on about how people doing think girls are not as capable as boys. So far that seems to be the main theme in all the books in this series.

Light hearted enough.

John Keeting is an accomplished narrator. He brings the book alive. The interaction between Madrid and Will is delightful. Most memorable moment....the interaction between Maddie and the beggar...

My son loved it

Another great book! Since reading to the original rangers apprentice books as a kid, I haven’t been able to keep up with the series. This new series has been great for me to get back into it.

Great book!

A good standard work in the series! It's building up for a good climax, so bear that in mind.

Pretty good tale

I love these books have been reading them since I was young. Not a fan of the new style cliff hanger at the end. Amazing story amazing plot but then left wanting which I guess is the point but come on... still getting the next one lol
