Lady Eliza Whitmore has always been trapped by society’s expectations, but when her brother’s scandalous elopement ruins the family’s reputation, she is forced into a cruel marriage. Desperate, Eliza flees to Bath, assuming a new identity as Mrs. Wentworth, finding freedom and an unexpected romance…

James Pembroke, the Duke of Ashbourne, prefers solitude, avoiding London’s social scene. However, when his younger sister Charlotte seeks a husband, the Duke reluctantly agrees to help. Little did he know he would be drawn to the mysterious Mrs. Wentworth, his sister’s chaperone, whose hidden beauty intrigues him, stirring emotions he has long buried…

As James and Eliza navigate the social scene together, they uncover secrets about each other’s pasts. James is drawn to Eliza’s hidden beauty and quiet strength, while Eliza struggles to keep her true identity a secret. Will Eliza’s secret world and James’s protective instincts drive them closer or force them apart forever?

I particularly appreciated that there wasn’t any long drawn out drama. I dislike stories that raise my blood pressure. It’s delightfully low and I prefer keeping it that way. There was a point where I thought it was going to happen and I literally skipped to the next chapter and realized that what I anticipated, didn’t happen so I went back and listened to what I had skipped. And I’m getting use to the virtual voice. It’s not perfect but I also remember listening to many books where the real life narrators mispronounced words and I wondered of anyone ever edited the recordings. A pleasant romantic story and I’m here for anything that brings a smile.

The Virtual voice mispronounced words at times yet would pronounce them correctly at times. Also vv would have the wrong inflection/emotion at times making a serious moment comical plus vv did not use punctuation so sentences ran together, etc
