Frank Savage lived a fascinating life, and The Savage Way distills it into practical lessons on leadership, resilience, and navigating power. Ahead of his time, Savage has particular value to aspiring business leaders and to professionals of color looking for a candid playbook on credibility, composure, and perseverance.

The early chapters’ Enron defenses are tedious and repetitive, but push through. The book hits its stride when Savage recounts high-stakes international situations and the inner resolve required to keep moving when the room, the stakes, and the politics are stacked against you.

One caveat: skip the audiobook. The narrator overacts, bizarrely placing emphasis on words, and turns serious moments into melodrama, which blunts the impact. Savage himself is engaging and thoughtful in interviews; you can’t help wishing you were hearing this story in his own voice. Until a future edition leverages AI to deliver that, just buy the book and read it.
