A "Manchurian Candidate" is an unwitting assassin brainwashed and programmed to kill. In this book, former State Department officer John Marks tells the explosive story of the CIA's highly secret program of experiments in mind control. His curiosity first aroused by information on a puzzling suicide, Marks worked from thousands of pages of newly released documents as well as interviews and behavioral science studies, producing a book that "accomplished what two Senate committees could not" (Senator Edward Kennedy).

I was shocked when I first heard about all the wild mind control experiments the CIA was doing. As I learned more and more, I'm no longer surprised by their depravity, I only wonder what messed up stuff is yet to be uncovered, or have the whistle blown. I am sickened by the twisted things our government has been involved in.

The CIA is super sketch!

Sadly, much of what we learned about the abuses of MKUltra, have just been repeated in new ways leading up to the COVID pandemic. The Nuremberg trials need to come back… We never seem to learn from our checkered history.

This is solid journalism and an account of an important dark part of American history. I would like to see the author tackle Operation Paperclip. I'm certain he would produce a reputable and reliable telling of the story.

Nicely done

Everyone American should read this. It has more value to our current issues than it was when it was written. Well researched and the narrative is engaging.

Shocking and well detailed

I am not interested in this particular dark topic whatsoever because I take no interest in pseudo-science or sadistic torture for that matter, because I love people and enjoy getting to understand others instead of controlling them like puppets. I purchased this audiobook because I was forced against my will as a minor to participate in Top Secret Classified CIA and DARPA sponsored developmental/behavioral/personality human experimentation with "RF" and pharmaceuticals. They are trying to do too many things all at once and are too ambitious with their pseudo-science and AI B.S.
