Jo Beverley pens romance novels of immense appeal, as evidenced by her frequent appearances on the New York Times best-seller list. In this installment of Beverley’s Georgian Secrets trilogy, young Dorcas Caroline Froggatt rushes into marriage with a soldier who defends her honor. Supposedly killed soon after going off to war, the erstwhile groom again figures in Dorcas’ life when, years later, she attempts to marry another.

The author did a lovely job with character development and parts actually made me laugh out loud. Perhaps some bits were a tad far fetched but isn’t that the point of this kind of fiction? All in all a delightful story with some steamy bits, humor, and depth.

Not much of a plot. Main characters were one dimensional and put in improbable situations. The basis of the story had potential-but went no where. Narrator was good and did best to keep the story moving. Would not recommend unless obtained via plus catalog.

Poorly developed story

So disappointing.., I kept waiting for this story to come to life but it never did, Jill Tenner did her usual good job but there was no that’d there.

Don’t Waste your money

The female character is not likable. Not enough balance to her obtuse bitterness. Self- absorbed and not insightful. I would not want to be married to her.

Female character is Grating
