A stranger who appears on Kat's doorstep turns out to be one Charlotte Bristow, legal wife of Joe Bristow, the man Kat once believed herself married to—who she thought died at sea twelve years ago. Kat is jolted by Charlotte’s claims that Joe was not only murdered but that he also had amassed a small fortune before he died. Charlotte makes the cook an offer she cannot refuse—if Kat can discover the identity of Joe's murderer, Charlotte will give her a share of the fortune Joe left behind.

With the help of Daniel McAdam, her attractive and charismatic confidante, Kat plunges into her own past to investigate. When it becomes apparent that the case of Joe’s death goes far deeper than simple, opportunistic theft, Kat and Daniel's relationship is put to the test, and Kat herself comes under scrutiny as her connection to Joe is uncovered. She must race to catch the real killer before she loses her job and possibly her life.

What’s up with Daniel’s voice? I keep pre-ordering these books because there are enough different story lines across the cast of characters, combined with mysteries that have interested me, to make me want to pursue. The narrator does a fine job with the female voices but is weak with the men, especially the leading male character, Daniel. I can barely hear his words and his sound is super annoying to me . But… I’ll be back for one more try!

Great series but..

Love the series, the characters, the writing, the performance. I do agree that Daniel’s voice needs some work. Very hard to hear and too breathy. Other than that, flawless!!

Love this series!!

I’ve been enjoying each book in this series. I do wish for a narrator with a broader range of male voices. All the men are husky, whispering mumblers. And a few just sound creepy. Yet the voice of Kat is just right. Frustrating to listen to.

Engaging characters in an upstairs/downstairs setting.

Perfect except I need more!!

This time Kat finds out all the secrets of her husband’s past and what happened.

Best part is she and Daniel are finally going to court!!!!

Perfect!

I was hoping for another book in the series , however I think the author has concluded with this last book. It has been a lovely series to listen to as I love the setting, the characters and all the cooking!! Maybe there will be one more? I may only hope!

Sad to see it end.
