Eighteen-year-old Francesca Haversham is privileged, beautiful, and naïve. Lineage, titles, and wealth are the ultimate virtues among 19th century English aristocracy, and Francesca is elite society’s newest and most celebrated debutante from one of England’s most illustrious families. Her pedigree is impeccable - or is it?

Her coming-out ball brings with it the appearance of one Mr. Langley Ashbourne, and Francesca is immediately taken in by his handsome features and flattering words. But not everything is as it seems, and flowery comments can only hide dark truths for so long. Meanwhile, a long-buried secret creeps ever closer to the light, one that would destroy her comfortable life, tarnish her family’s character, and ruin all hopes of a reputable marriage.

This is such a well-rounded book with something in it for everyone- mystery, suspense, romance, loyalty, family conflict , and more! I loved how relatable the characters and situations all felt, with little life-lesson nuggets hidden throughout the charchters’ personal journeys. A very engaging and delightful story!

What a delightful read!

Once I started this book I could not stop! The story of Francesca and how she came to the Havershams and grew into an amazing young woman with a good head on her shoulders is beautiful. The views of English society back then make grateful I live in todays era. Francesca has some hardships due to her birth status but is able to find a way to overcome them and the person she didn’t once think of as a romantic partner she soon finds that she can’t live without. Will her new status in society affect her aspects for marriage? Oh yes!
I recommend this book to all regency era lovers!! Truly well written and thought out. Its a clean and wonderful story and you get to visit some of the different areas found around England.
