Somewhat different than the series

The book was excellent, but somewhat different than the other titles in the series. (I've read them all). It was more focused on other characters and less involved with the Indian culture. Still excellent and well worth the listen.

Native culture

I liked the narrative about native culture and description of landscape. Made me feel like I was there needing to open a gate.

Another satisfying Hillerman…

I really appreciate Tony Hillerman’s understanding of the State of New Mexico, Indian territories, and various jurisdictions in the State. All of that and an exciting mystery combines to make another great story.

Good character development

Enjoyed the scenic descriptions, character development and flow of the plot provided not only by the writer's superb story development but also by the superb narration

Excellent backstory

Complexity of the story. Good character development throughout
a very complex plot. A happy ending.
