Kidnapping is Andrew Douglas's business: they take them, he finds them. But it isn't so simple when Alessia Cenci, golden-girl jockey, disappears, followed by the young child of a derby winner and the senior steward of the Jockey Club. From Italy to England to Washington, D.C., Andrew's caseload is suddenly, violently overflowing. And he must fight triply hard to keep his own name off the growing list of victims. . . .

Douglas the kidnapping expert is an interesting character and I was pleased to get three stories in one. The romance with his first rescue is a little predatory seeming viewed with modern eyes.

Dick Francis takes his British hero (a private investigator who foils kidnappers) to Italy and America. The narrator does a nice job distinguishing the various characters.

Excellent!

What a wonderful narrator, more excellent material, and genius author. Can’t wait to find more treasures!

FANTASTIC AS ALWAYS

While the story followed the typical Francis formula, the character is unusual, though connected somehow to horse racing as all Francis’ non-jockey characters are. I thought it was fascinating. Even though I thought I had read all DF’s books years ago, apparently I missed this one.

Typical Francis, Unusual Character

This is one of Francis’s best stories. Good character development and interesting characters. The subject is truly interesting, and Francis, as usual, has done his research, making the story that much more interesting. There’s a good rise and fall of suspense.
The narrator is superb!

Top notch story and great narration
