There are millions of "preppers" that are working feverishly every day to get prepared for what they fear is a disaster about to happen in America. The motivation for prepping is different for each person. Donald has been getting his farmstead ready by making it more self-reliant in case of a solar storm occurrence that the experts say had a 12% chance of taking the electrical grid out. They should have said a 100% because it has happened and Donald was nowhere near done prepping for it when it occurred. Now the burden is on his shoulders to figure out how to pull the community together for mutual survival while trying to hold onto his own small store of preps.

The Sun has exploded a coronal mass ejection and sun spot activity sent electromagnetic waves toward Earth that disabled all power and communications. His pursuing self-reliance to optimize return on resources might of just backfired on him and made him a target, as he is about to get overwhelmed with people who had not prepared and are asking or demanding to share in the food that he has put away for his family.

Prepper community core values include 1) Being responsible for our own destiny as individuals, and 2) Assisting one another to advance our well-being.

Prepper wisdom dictates that you are your own best bet. If you begin your life with that premise, then it will be hard to become a victim. That does not mean that you will not encounter barriers to your achievements or get victimized. This is the hard part to prepare for.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I like how the author describes how he built up his bug out location and optimized it for survival. I love Foster`s books and sense of humor and his books translate exceptionally well to audio.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 'The Solitary Man'?

The building of the cook house bunker. I never thought of this type of structure and hope to incorporate it on my property someday.

Which character – as performed by Duane Sharp – was your favorite?

I liked Lowbuck Prepper. I watch his real life youtube channel and to listen to him as a fictional character was a hoot.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked all of it but the referrals to how he permacultured his property inspired me to try to do some of the same techniques.

I normally like Ron's work, but for me this book was a waste of my time and painfully boring. The characters were also poorly represented and insulting to the listener's intelligence. In my opinion there was no redeeming value to this book.
